The Athenæum of Philadelphia presents “The Paradox of Urban Revitalization” with Howard Gillette, Jr. The event will be held online on Thursday, December 8 from 12pm – 1pm.
Howard Gillette, Jr. is Professor Emeritus of History at Rutgers-Camden, the founding director of the Mid- Atlantic Regional Center for the Humanities, and co-editor of the Encyclopedia of Greater Philadelphia. His newest book, “The Paradox of Urban Revitalization Progress and Poverty in America’s Postindustrial Era,” evaluates the uneven efforts to secure racial and class equity as city fortunes have risen through an analysis of nine cities grappling with challenges of the twenty-first century.
