The Legacy of Decline: “Seeing the Postindustrial City”
The Ford Foundation has supported New York photographer and MacArthur Foundation fellow Camilo Jose Vergara to create a resource for visualizing the postindustrial city — www.invinciblecities.com — which together with the publication of Camden After the Fall by Howard Gillette, offer new resources for assessing the effects of postindustrial decline on its own terms, free of the prejorative labels too often applied to such areas.

importance of making Camden a premier location for residence and work once again.

In its historic ruling in the Mount Laurel housing cases, the New Jersey Supreme Court required a regional solution to ensuring every community provides its “fair share” of affordable housing. Revisiting the effort initiated by Ethel Lawrence as the original plaintiff in the cases, john a. powell sets forth a new agenda for city and region for the new century.
